Some pics from the walk today. November 11th will mark 10 years of my daughter having Juvenile Diabetes (T1D).

November 11, 2005.  Lynda’s  hospital room was small, and the floor, which I found myself staring at constantly, was tiled in blue. Purple and pink curtains were hanging over the vertical blinds across the large window. Her room was down a long hallway in 3 South, which is located on the 3rd floor of Children’s Hospital. This room wasn’t as cold as the room in the Emergency Department, but it wasn’t warm enough to call it cozy either. My daughter was watching, Ella Enchanted. Halfway through the movie the nurse walked in with syringes in one hand and insulin in the other. “Hello,” she said with a smile. “Time for insulin,” she pulled two latex gloves out of a box on the counter. “I’m sure you’ve seen this done a few times today,” she said while filling the syringe with clear liquid from the little glass bottle. “Now it’s your turn to give it a try.”  “Here we go,” she said while holding the syringe out to me. Check out our Walk Team Video for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. We're getting an early start this year and I am hoping to get more people involved. I chose the song "Some Say Love," sung by LeAnne Rhimes. I think this song is so beautiful. It's like she is singing a poem. I am putting together a video for our family's JDRF Walk for the Cure Team. The video will be about my daughter's life and struggle with diabetes and will contain text and images. I have everything except the background music. Beautiful - Christina Aguilera Wind Beneath My Wing - Bette Midler Hands - Jewel Because You Loved me Tears in Heaven Okay, so these are basically a bunch of songs that I love and find inspirational, but none of them seem to fit. Does anyone know of a good inspirational song, or a song about hope, or persevering?

According to the ADA, the total annual economic cost of diabetes in the USA in 2007 was estimated to be $174 billion. On March 9, 2009, President Barack Obama signed an Executive Order removing the limitations on federal funding of research involving embryonic stem cells that had been in place since August 2001. I know this is old news, but I was online today browsing Diabetes Research (again) and dreaming that there will be a cure sometime during my daughter's life. This makes me so much more hopeful. Even if most of the research is being done for adults and not children, she'll be an adult soon enough and one of my main concerns now, is how having this diseaes all these years, will effect her later in life. As she gets older, it'll only get worse. Right now we have hopes that a cure will be found. But imagine if I could tell her, that once you're this age, you can get this cure. That would be something to look forward to.

Young Voices Video: Through November 1st, Discovery Health was accepting video submissions for Young Voices: Life with Diabetes Call to Action. My daughter and I put together a short video (it had to be 60 seconds or less). We did all this work only to find out that our file was too large to be uploaded. That was fixable, but then I realized after reading further, that they were looking for teens and adolescents. Anyway, here is the video we put together: I don't know if it will be posted on Discovery Health's Site. They are selecting certain videos to be voted on.
