Nadya Suleman & Suze Orman on Oprah

Nadya Suleman visited Oprah for the second time around and this time it was to ask for financial help to keep herself and her fourteen children off of the street. Nadya insisted to Oprah that she was both "financially destitute" and "emotionally depleted."

Oprah arranged for Nadya to meet with Suze Orman to help with her financial crisis. Although Orman seemed to have been reluctant to work with Nadya at first, she did step in and help the single mother of fourteen. Orman probably gave Nadya the best advice there could ever possibly be; to pray and let go of her pride. She told Nadya to stop refusing to get an agent. She has to support those children. Nadya was very much concerned with how people would depict her if she hired an agent or accepted government funded help. She even said she thought people would hate her. Suze's response was; "Everybody thinks you’re crazy for having eight kids. You know it"

After that, Orman pretty much told the single mama to forget what people are or will say, and do what she has to do for those children. Suleman had Nadya get rid of all her nannies, except one. She had her sell things in her house that she didn't need. Nadya chose to do a yard sale and made $1500.00. She then took a celebrity bartending gig which earned her $1000. in two hours! Nadya hired a literary agent. Which I think is a great idea. I would definitely buy her book.

Another interesting point in the interview was when Nadya bashed herself, calling her past actions stupid. Orman pointed out,

"This isn't about you putting yourself down. This is your day in front of the world to go to the deepest part in yourself, to be honest with why, what and now where do we go? But not to condemn yourself."
This perhaps led to the most shocking parts of the interview. Nadya reveals that she felt something was missing from her life. She was barely making it with the six children she already had. Still, this didn't stop her from trying for more, because she was seeking an unconditional love that only children can give. Nadya admitted to Oprah that she was a "baby addict." She compared it to a drug addiction and told Winfrey,

"I think I could have been self-medicating with children."

Suleman even admits that when she couldn't afford to cover the in vitro with her savings, she borrowed money from friends to fund the procedure.

There were parts of the interview that, in my opinion were a little negative. Like, when Oprah and Orman drilled Nadya about plastic surgery and the porn industry. Those conversations, in my opinion, could have been left out. Also, the constant drilling to get Nadya to admit that she regrets having the octuplets, was not cool. Nadya never says that she regrets any of her children. She does say that if she new then, what she knows now, that she would have made better choices. That's a very normal and human thing to say. I admit it as well. I don't regret any my children. I love them dearly. However, I became a mom at the age of fifteen, and if I could go back and make better choices, I would. Who wouldn't? Overall, it was a great interview with lots of self revelations on Nadya's part.

Comments

  1. Good post! I didn't watch the hole show, but I didn't like what I see. This was supposed to be a financial procedure to help Nadya, not a show put her more down that she is right now. The whole say that you regret it didn't have its place in the interview. For screaming at Nadya, Orman lost it all. What a horrible show. I hope Nadya got paid to appear on Oprah. Its not Oprah helping Nadya, its more Nadya helping Oprah getting audience. Several times during the interview, Oprah laugh at Nadya. Did you notice? I didn't like that.

  2. Thanks for commenting.

I agree with you. I didn't like their behavior and I really do hope that Nadya got paid to do this interview. I thought that both Oprah and Suze were being a little insensitive. I felt a little bad for Nadya, because she went to Oprah for help, not to be scrutinized and ridiculed. I think she handled herself well though.

Week 29 - At The Beach

A Blog About Blogging -Someone Please Notice Me!

I've been spending some time joining social networks for Bloggers and checking out other blogs. One thing I've noticed is that a lot of people have a theme for their blog. The other thing that they have, that my blog doesn't have, is a header. I've seen so many pretty header images and catchy Blog titles. I'm wondering, "Is my blog missing something?" I chose not to use a header because I think it will clash with all the colors on my page and make everything look too busy. I chose not to stick to one theme because I have a million things to say and they come in a variety of different topics. I haven't been getting a lot of comments. So, I'm not sure if it has to do with the layout of my blog, or something else like that. I read somewhere online that for every 100 people that view your blog only 10 will comment. I can say that the social networks have paid off. Most of the comments that I received came from people who are members of those networks.

Bratz Big Kidz Music Stars

I tried my hardest to catch these dollies on sale this year. I planned to buy four. One for each of the girls. But they were selling out like crazy. My daughters just love Brat dolls. I don't know why. They have big heads, they break much easier than Barbie and they seriously overdue it on make-up. I was happy when MGA came up with the Bratz Kidz Dolls. These dolls don't where as much make-up. What I liked most about these Big Kidz, is that they are NOT dressed in slutty clothes. Although Yasmin's outfit still shows a little tummy, it is much more appropriate than others I have seen on this brand of doll. So anyway, as I searched the net for the new Bratz Big Kidz Music Stars, I could not find Sasha anywhere. I found the Bratz Big Kidz Snap-On Doll Sasha (who's skirt is way too short), but I could not find the Music Stars doll. I checked everywhere I could think of, (in the US) and found nothing. However, while searching the net I found that many stores in the UK ha

Selecting New Eyeglasses (It's Never a Bad Idea to Consider the Price)

I accidentally threw away my glasses one night, (that's so me, I had put them in a plastic bag with some snacks). That was over a year ago and I just recently took on the challenge of selecting and purchasing new eyeglasses . This is a challenge to me, because I always have a difficult time selecting the best glasses for my face shape and skin tone. Honestly, I hate the way I look in any glasses and if I didn't need prescription glasses in order to operate a vehicle, I would go without them. (I do not recommend that anyone else do that, and I'm sure my optometrist would scold me). In order to prevent myself from getting another ticket, I had to take on the task of finding some glasses that I would feel comfortable and confident in. This time around I did some online research on how to pick out the perfect glasses . I watched some videos, read some articles, figured out my face shape, and then forgot almost everything as soon as I walked into the optical shop and saw

Thursday Thoughts

I guess there comes a time when every mother has to come face to face with their teenager and let them know who's boss. Mother/daughter relationships can be difficult during these years. This Thursday's Thought: "Mother Nature is providential. She gives us twelve years to develop a love for our children before turning them into teenagers." ~William Galvin The reason behind the thought: My daughter crossed a line last night. This line crossing showed blatant disrespect and has changed our relationship forever. My daughter turned 13 in March. It's only been a few months and one of my worst fears has already come true. The fear that she would one day forget how much I love her and how much I've been here for her through the years. I've never had a teenager before and this is all new to me, but one thing I am not going to do is play friends with her and allow her to disrespect me.
